Turkish-German actor, Numan Acar, has been cast in the upcoming live-action adaptation of Aladdin.

Acar will play Hakim, the head of the royal guards and Jafar’s right-hand man.

Acar will be seen next in the TIFF bound German thriller, In The Fade. He has also appeared on Homeland and Prison Break.

Aladdin will be directed by Guy Ritchie, and will star Egyptian-Canadian actor, Mena Massoud, as Aladdin. Tunisian-Dutch actor, Marwan Kenzari, as Jafar, Will Smith as the Genie, Iranian-American actress, Nasim Pedrad, as Mara (Jasmine’s handmaiden), and British-Indian actress, Naomi Scott, as Princess Jasmine. Scott is the most controversial casting, since she is half-Indian and light-skinned, Jasmine is Arab and of a darker complexion.

The casting so far has stuck with the story’s Middle Eastern roots, with the exception of the co-lead.
