Saturday Night Live alum Nasim Pedrad just landed a role in Disney’s live-action Aladdin remake. The comedienne who recently co-starred on Mulaney, Scream Queens and New Girl will be playing a new character that was not part of the animated film.

Pedrad will portray Mara, a friend and handmaiden to Princess Jasmine. The Hollywood Reporter describes the part as a comedic supporting role.

This news comes the same day as the announcement of Marwan Kenzari as the villainous Jafar, meaning all of the main cast of the movie has been found. Mena Massoud will play Aladdin with Will Smith tackling the role of the Genie, while Naomi Scott is set to play Jasmine.

Interestingly enough, Pedrad is no stranger to Aladdin. The actor played Princess Jasmine in a skit for SNL dubbed, The Real Housewives of Disney. Check out the image below:

It’s great that the film is adding some new characters to help tell the story and give us something new to look forward to. With Pedrad attached to Mara, it’s certain that the character will get many laughs from the audience.

The live-action version of the 1992 Disney classic will be directed by Guy Ritchie with re-writes from Vanessa Taylor. At the D23 expo, Alan Menken announced he would be co-writing the music for the film alongside recent Academy Award winning duo Pasek and Paul (La La Land).

A release date for Aladdin has yet to be set.
