Fancast Friday: 5 Actresses We Want to See Play Riri Williams a.k.a. Ironheart
Riri Williams (a.k.a. Ironheart) is a genius teen prodigy. She is a 15-year-old engineering student and thus Disney should avoid the “older than 25+ year old actress plays a teenager” type casting that Hollywood is infamous for.
In this fancast, I have selected five young talented Black actresses who are in the appropriate age range to play Riri Williams, assuming the rumours are true and Ironheart is quickly approaching.
Without a further ado, let’s go!
You already know her face and voice because Shahadi Wright Joseph had quite the year in 2019. The actress played the dual role of Zora and Umbrae in Jordan Peele’s Us and was the voice of young Nala in The Lion King. The 16-year-old not only has an in with Disney, but has also acted alongside other notable MCU actors.
Riele Downs is an 18-year-old Canadian actress who is in the perfect position for a breakout role. A role like Riri is an opportunity to cast a young up-and-coming actress and catapult her to super stardom.
Marvel is no stranger to casting critically-acclaimed actors in their projects. Quvenzhané Wallis is the youngest actress to be nominated for the Best Actress Oscar. A talented critically acclaimed actress, who happens to be 16-years-old? Sounds like a good choice for Riri.
If you are familiar with This is Us then you will know Eris Baker. Baker has played the oldest daughter of Randall and Beth for quite a while, and has proven to be a very capable young actress.
Royalty Hightower, if that isn’t the name of a superstar then I don’t know what is. The young actress only has one notable credit to her name, The Fits. However, Hightower was exquisite and received great acclaim for her performance. She is clearly poised to have a big career.
Hopefully, whomever Disney casts does justice for the role and probably is an actual teenager. We don’t need any grown women out here taking opportunities away from young starlets.
