Interview: ‘Andor’ Star Diego Luna Talks Latino Representation & How ‘Star Wars’ Reflects Real World Issues
Star Wars has been tackling various live-action original series’ on Disney +, and Andor looks to be the most unique of them all. As a prequel to Rogue One, Andor promises to keep that grounded feel and add an expansive rich story around Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor.
I recently sat down with the star of the show, Diego Luna, to discuss more about what Andor represents in the Star Wars universe. Luna happily broke out in Spanish during our interview as I made my introduction in Spanish. He spoke about the importance and joy of seeing more Latinos in Star Wars, as well as, how crucial diversity is to Star Wars stories. We also discussed the relevancy of Andor’s themes when it comes to current social movements and how Star Wars has always been a reflection of current world issues.
The mix of Spanish and English in our interview perfectly fit into our discussion on Star Wars being about different groups of people, with their own culture and language, coming together to stand against the authoritarian Empire.
