Issa Rae to Star in Rom-Com ‘American Princess’; Directed by Stella Meghie
Issa Rae is set to star in a romantic comedy titled, American Princess.
The project has Everything, Everything director Stella Meghie attached to it. Meghie’s debut film Jean of the Joneses, garnered a nomination from the Independent Spirit Awards. American Princess will be produced by Paul Feig (Bridesmaids, Ghostbusters), Brendan O’Brien, and Jessie Henderson.

The Golden Globe nominee is set to portray “an American woman who moves to London, where she’s drawn into a world of wealth and high society and falls in love in a very unexpected way.”
Rae is the star and co-creator of HBO’s Insecure which just aired its third season. The project will have Rae collaborate with Insecure co-executive producer and writer, Amy Aniobi. Aniobi served as the head writer and executive producer of HBO stand-up special 2 Dope Queens and is writing the film’s script.
The actress, author, and creator of the web series The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl is set to star in the film The Hate U Give which was released in select theatres on the October 5 and will be everywhere October 19.

Meghie is currently developing a family drama titled The Photograph, with producer Will Packer at Universal.
Jonathan Wu is set to oversee the project for Fox.
