Black Bolt, King of the Inhumans, packs quite a punch with that voice of his. Any use of his vocal chords triggers his sonic scream abilities, so it makes sense that the actor playing him uses sign langauge. Anson Mount who will star as Black Bolt spoke to EW about his sign language throughout the show. Check out what he had to say:

“I actually have to do more preparation when it comes to scenes in which I sign, and I can’t use American Sign Language,”

He goes on to say,

“Because he’s not from Earth, he wouldn’t know American Sign Language, so I’m making my own sign system.”

An interesting thinking process Mount has going into this role. It’s going to take dedication and consistency to keep up with certain reoccurring signs he does. We sure can’t wait to see. Check out the synopsis below!

After the Royal Family of Inhumans is splintered by a military coup, they barely escape to Hawaii where their surprising interactions with the lush world and humanity around them may prove to not only save them, but Earth itself.

The first two episodes of Marvel’s Inhumans hits theaters Friday, Sept. 1. The full series will air on ABC in the fall.

Every alien in the MCU speaks fluent English; why “can’t [he] use American Sign Language”? His made up system will hardly be as complete, robust and convincing as a real signing system.

I think this is a failure for the show. Given who the showrunner is, I’m not surprised by this misfire.
