Every hero has an origin. The official trailer for Transformers One is here, and we have our first look at the upcoming movie. The film is the long-awaited origin story of how the most iconic characters in the Transformers universe, Orion Pax and D-16, went from brothers-in-arms to sworn enemies, Optimus Prime and Megatron.

Josh Cooley, the director known for his work with Disney Studios with Toy Story 4, has leaped Paramount Animation to lead an epic film. Before Michael Bay kicked off the live-action film series, there was The Transformers, a television series that started in 1984. This series inspired the animated movie The Transformers: The Movie, created in 1986. Nearly four decades have passed since the last animated Transformers film was released.

Bringing these legendary characters to life is a stellar cast led by Chris Hemsworth as Orion Pax, Brian Tyree Henry as D-16, and Scarlett Johansson as Elita-1. Joining them are the talents of Keegan-Michael Key as B-127, alongside the likes of Steve Buscemi, Laurence Fishburne, and Jon Hamm.

Watch the official trailer for Transformers One below:

Orion Pax, also known as Optimus Prime, and D16, who goes by Megatron, are eager to experience a life beyond what they’ve known. B-127, portrayed by Keegan-Michael Key accompanies them, and together they set out to discover their true potential on the surface. Upon their arrival, they are amazed by the vast differences between their new world and their own. However, adapting to their new surroundings proves to be a challenge. Finally, they are granted the power to transform, an ability they have been waiting for their entire lives. Together, they must learn to use their new abilities and fight the forces of evil.

The trailer looked extremely polished and I’m hoping that this leads to more animated films set in the Transformers universe. It is great to see that after the success and praise that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem received, that more movies are coming from Paramount Animation.

Transformers One is produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Tom DeSanto & Don Murphy, Michael Bay, Mark Vahradian, Aaron Dem. Executive producers are Steven Spielberg, Zev Foreman, Olivier Dumont, Brian Oliver, B.J. Farmer, Matt Quigg.

Transformers One hits theaters on September 20.
