My Adventures with Superman is back! After the success of the past two seasons, the animated series returns with a third season that promises major stakes and notable characters who could join our beloved crew.

As always, the show has its own unique take on the Superman mythos with twists on origin stories and backgrounds that make it a truly original perspective on the DC Universe. That originality is on full display in season 3 with everything fans have loved about the show so far, scaled up significantly! There is a remarkable balance between deeper character exploration and a one-of-a-kind humour and charm that make the series special.

The most noteworthy aspect of season 3 is the creativity. That is the one thing felt most this season. The writers of the series are never afraid to go in bold directions, and it pays off in a big way with exciting twists that are genuinely fun and surprising, because the universe is so distinct from anything we’ve seen in DC before. This distinct world allows for new takes on fan favourites and intriguing choices on classic storylines.

This also goes for the humour, which is the show’s calling card. My Adventures with Superman’s humour is incomparable. A singular force of nonstop laughs. There are so many offbeat and fun directions to running jokes, bits, and expressive comedic moments that span across all the episodes of the season. From Jimmy’s wacky adventures to Kara’s awkwardness to Lois running into wild scenarios, there is always a memorable, hilarious moment in every episode.

The animation is a key component of this charm and playfulness. The series once again uses animation to emphasize certain moments, with stylistic changes and exaggerated expressions that make the scenes even more humorous. The creativity in the animated direction is off the charts, with unconventional bits added onto an already amusing moment. That anime style is felt throughout the series, with breaks from the straightforward approach to the world’s rules. That unpredictably aspect of the show is what makes it so special.

Beyond all the high jinks and antics, the story and characters are still at the center of the series. This season places Clark in difficult situations and strips back the Superman persona to explore his identity away from superhero duties. These questions about identity and purpose are further explored with Kara, who embarks on her own journey of self-discovery as a new resident on Earth and as a hero who finds her own voice. This version of Lois remains one of the standouts, with even more exploration of her peculiar background and personality that make her the reporter and person she is. The season is filled with profound analysis of each of our crew members, which only elevates the story.

The story of this season follows the theme of creative, out-of-the-box thinking, with an array of storylines and comic moments that make it thrilling. The story takes its time to develop and elevate storylines and themes that have spanned across all the seasons of the show so far. There is such a fresh take on the classic DC Comics universe that makes every plot point even more captivating.

The third season of My Adventures with Superman is exceptional. An extraordinary, original exploration of the Superman character with an equal focus on his beloved crew members. The team aspect of the show is felt even more this season, with character moments that are equal parts hilarious and heartfelt. The cast is felt even more this season with singular performances that make the characters feel even more lovable. The show’s humour is phenomenal, with unparalleled creativity. Every bit feels intentional and audacious, with its humorous take on the characters’ feelings.

The series’ originality makes it one of the best DC animated projects, which is significant, given that DC has been known for this for many years. However, My Adventures with Superman deserves to stand among the classics after a continuous string of stellar seasons. The DC Universe has something truly special with this series. It is quickly becoming a generation-defining classic that should be considered among the great DC animated projects.

Rating: 9/10

Season 3 of My Adventures with Superman will premiere on June 14.
