One of the year’s best shows was certainly Gen V. The spin-off set in the world ofThe Boys featured a thrilling story, great characters and many twists and turns to keep audiences entertained.

I had the opportunity to chat with some of the show’s stars, including London Thor, Jaz Sinclair and Derek Luh. Sinclair portrayed Marie, a hemokinetic supe while Thor and Luh shared acting duties as Jordan, a supe gender-shifter who could also wield energy blasts in Jordan’s female form and had superhuman durability in Jordan’s male form.

Not only were the characters dealing with using and controlling their powers throughout the first season, but they also had to investigate strange events that happened at Godolkin University. Nothing was as it seemed, and chatting with the cast about their experience during season one was amazing.

The trio was in great spirits during the interview, eager to share their experience on the set of Gen V. One of my personal favourite scenes from the season was when Marie having a conversation with Claudia Doumit’s Victoria Neuman. If you’re familiar with The Boys, you’ll know Neuman for her cunning ways and very explosive powers.

During the in-scene conversation, it was interesting to see the shared experiences of Marie and Victoria, so I asked Sinclair what it was like for her to film the scene alongside Doumit.

Sinclair shared, “That scene – first of all, Claudia is amazing! And having her on set, just as a person, was great. She’s so fun and so Australian! I don’t know what I was expecting, but it wasn’t that. But that scene was so long and we cut it down from what it was originally. But it was a five page scene where we were both just talking, talking, talking, and there’s all these big realizations. And I just remember that Shana, our director, was very much like, ‘Okay, today is a one act play and we’re gonna get this scene.’ So we spent a lot of time in the room, working on all the different beats and nuance, and the realization and connection. It was really a fun scene to shoot and working with Claudia was very fun.”

Another impressive par of the season was Thor and Luh’s performances as Jordan. There was an absolute synchronicity between the pair and the ease with which they portrayed Jordan was a joy to watch. I asked the duo what it was like for them to prepare for the role and if they spent a lot of time together in order to get the mannerisms and movements of the character just right.

Thor told me, “Yeah, we did spend a lot of time together. I think the way it ended up working out was just because we were in every scene together, we just ended up spending that time together, and we ended up living down the street from each other, essentially. I could walk to his place and we could chat, and we had one big meeting about the character and then after that, we just already started out pretty in-sync, honestly. Which was great.”

The pair shared that they bonded over food and Luh chimed in with, “A lot of dinners; sharing desserts!”

For those who are up-to-date with the first season, you’ll know there is a cameo featuring the leader of The Seven, Homelander (Antony Starr). It was one of the scenes that the cast was most excited about, and even looking back at filming the scene, they had a lot to say.

Luh said, “It was intense! I mean, even when Antony came onto set, he was in his shorts and his shirt and he was just Antony. It was like a little walk-through and then as soon as he came out in the Homelander suit, I don’t even know if we were acting. We were just having a real reaction and watching him come like 50 feet or was it 75 or even 100? He was like 100 feet up and just watching him just crane in and drop in – it was just so long and so slow that it was just so ominous ’til he finally touches the ground. And his mannerisms and everything, it was just great!”

The entire first season of Gen V is available to stream on Prime Video!
