The highly anticipated second part of Zack Snyder’s epic space opera, Rebel Moon, begins streaming on Netflix today.
Leading up to the release of Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver, I had the opportunity to speak with actors Sofia Boutella and Michiel Huisman about the film, specifically the arcs of their characters, working with writer-director Zack Snyder and what they hope audiences take away from Part Two.

Clearly, Boutella loves her character, Kora, and when I asked what about Kora and her journey, spoke to her the most while reading the script. Boutella had terrific things to say.
“I think it’s just exploring the journey and her discovery, the self discovery. And, you know, she comes from such a tough past and tormented circumstances. What spoke to me is the fact that she gives herself a chance for an alternative, and that she does recognize the goodness in people, and the opportunities that she could give herself, you know, a better future and recognize these things. So for me, it was fun. It was fun to find these moments, and to explore them,” Boutella said.
Huisman’s character, Gunnar, has many impactful moments throughout Part Two. I asked Huisman what it was like going through those moments with his character and building with Boutella’s character, Kora, along the way.
“Yeah, it was a lot of fun. I mean, you’re right, he goes through such a transformation really over the course of these two parts. And he really goes from like a humble farmer to, to being a pretty much a badass. What I really enjoyed is that somehow in both Part One and Part Two, there are these moments where he goes against all odds, constantly steps up and does something that seems to set the whole thing in motion or saves the rebels, and that’s so satisfying to play,” Huisman said.
Both Boutella and Huisman enjoyed collaborating with Snyder on Rebel Moon.
Speaking about his work ethic and involvement Boutella shared, “He was so hands on so many aspects of the film. He was DOP, he was producer, writer, director, and a lot of the time operating the camera himself. And he was also very collaborative with us in terms of creating the character, the way it looks. And he was just also very, genuinely excited and enthusiastic about the film.
Every day I came to set, no matter what – no matter what the weather, no matter the scene, had the biggest smile on his face, and the biggest excitement. And sometimes, you know, these kinds of movies can you know, for a long time, nine months of shooting, and the circumstances can get a bit hard, and we can all get a bit tired. And he was really holding the fort for all of us and welcomed us every single day with so much enthusiasm, happiness, he was just happy to be there.”
As sci-fi fans are excited and wondering what Part Two: The Scargiver has to offer, Huisman was hopeful that viewers will resonate with the film when they take the time to watch it.
In reference to people viewing Part Two Huisman said, “I hope they enjoy the ride. And I think that underneath all the action there is probably hopefully a message of hope. And I hope that resonates with our audience.”
