30 years after the Stephen King adaptation first hit the big screen, Paramount will bring Pet Sematary to life once more. According to Entertainment Weekly, the film remake opens in theaters on April 19, 2019.

The first Pet Sematary launched in 1989 and was helmed by Mary Lambert, while King adapted his novel into a script himself. Pet Sematary’s remake joins IT, The Dark Tower, Gerald’s Game and more in a long line of cross media projects, marking a grand comeback of Stephen King-adapted stories to the screen.

For the impending remake, Starry Eyes‘ Kevin Kolsch and Dennis Widmyer are on directing duty. Scriptwriter Jeff Buhler (The Midnight Meat Train) is penning the screenplay. Presently, casting details remain unknown, but details will likely being surfacing soon.

The 1983 novel follows the Creed family to their new home in Maine. A path from the family’s property leads to a neighborhood pet cemetery that’s been managed by generations of children and harbors unimaginable horrors.
