Ryan Coogler’s Sinners is now in theatres!

Ahead of the film’s release, I had the pleasure of sitting down with some of the cast to chat about their experience working on Sinners.

Li Jun Li, Delroy Lindo, and Omar Miller shine in Sinners. Their characters bring fantastic energy to the fray every time they appear on screen. The trio told me their experiences when they learned they would be a part of Coogler’s next film, that there’s much more than meets the eye when it comes to the Sinners, and the excellent use of music throughout the movie.

Check out the full interview with Li Jun Li, Delroy Lindo, and Omar Miller below:

The trio had great stories about learning they would be part of the Sinners cast. Li got the call after she finished wrapping another project, Miller got the call and had to break his NDA to explain to his father and uncle how great it was to be cast in Coogler’s next film, and Lindo said his story was “not anywhere near as interesting” as his castmates’.

Li shared, “I was on my last day of wrapping on a film, and my team called and said, ‘Hey, are you wrapped?’ And I said, ‘No, I’m at lunch.’ And they said, ‘Well, we got your next job lined up, and it’s Ryan Coogler film.’ I didn’t hear, so I was like, ‘What?!’ Because they’re all screaming at the same time, ‘Ryan Coogler!’ And I said, ‘Ahhh!’ [laughs] So yes, that was my reaction.”

Miller followed up with his story and shared, “It felt great. I was with my father and my uncle, who are from Mississippi when I got the news, and who were both in their 80s, and I tried to explain to them, because they’re not online, so I broke the NDA, I’m sorry. I tried to explain to them what I was going to do and that it was about a juke joint, and it led to some long stories about running around Jukes in Mississippi. It was a great day. I’ll never forget it.”

Lastly, Lindo shared his experience talking to Coogler about the role and said, “My story is not anywhere near as interesting or entertaining as these guys. I was in Los Angeles working. Ryan and I had had a number of conversations, texting back and forth, and we had a couple of Zooms. And look, I want you to, I want you for this man. And it was a, ‘Great, I’m there.’ It was kind of sort of that quote, unquote simple.”

Be sure to watch the full interview to see the cast talk about the music of Sinners and why the film is more than meets the eye!
