Fans are excited as Deadpool & Wolverine is right around the corner!
I had the pleasure of speaking with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige about the latest MCU film and how he felt about bringing more mutants into the fray. While there have been mentions of mutants peppered throughout the MCU in projects like Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Ms. Marvel, and TheMarvels, it was only a matter of time before some fan favourites joined the mix.
Deadpool & Wolverine brings back beloved characters, with Ryan Reynolds reprising his role as the merc with a mouth and Hugh Jackman returning as Wolverine. A sight that will surely evoke nostalgia and excitement among fans.

About setting the stage and putting things in motion to bring more Mutants and X-Men characters into the MCU, Kevin Feige said, “It’s been a tremendous amount of fun. And it’s been emotional on a personal level. I started with the X-Men movies, that was where my Marvel career began. And then, of course, over the years, as we started the MCU, and didn’t have access to those characters, I had sort of emotionally disconnected from them. I was always a fan, still a fan, but knowing that they couldn’t be a part of the sandbox. And then, one day, they were dropped back into our sandbox. And it felt like a great, a great gift.”
When approaching Deadpool & Wolverine, Feige told me he did not want to undo the great work Ryan Reynolds started with the first two Deadpool movies. Feige told me, “Well, I always thought that the the main goal was to not undo the wonderful thing Ryan had done on the first two on the first two Deadpool movies. Without us, he had made a great character that the audience responded to, and a great tone that stood apart from any comic-based films before it. So that was job number one was to was to let Ryan continue to do his thing.”
Seeing Reynolds as Deadpool and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine was an amazing moment for Feige to witness. He shared, “I’ve been lucky enough to have that experience dozens of times now. But when you’re standing in front of Wolverine in a yellow and blue suit, and Deadpool in that iconic costume, there’s something just chemically that happens biologically to me that is so exciting! I feel it in my bones and know that we’re off to something pretty amazing.”
Deadpool & Wolverine hits theatres on July 26.
