Money in the Bank brought in plenty of surprises over the weekend. The members of the WWE Universe lucky enough to attend the event at Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena witnessed Drew McIntyre winning the opportunity of a lifetime only to lose a few moments later and the rise of a star with Tiffany Stratton’s victory. However, nothing was more shocking than John Cena formally announcing his retirement from professional wrestling. After decades of entertaining the world with unforgettable matches, the 16-time world champion is ready to move on towards the next phase of his career.
Cena made it very clear that 2025 would be the last year he would be a part of the WWE as an active competitor. The upcoming farewell tour will include appearances at the Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber and WrestleMania. The first WrestleMania under the Netflix era of the company takes place in Las Vegas and audiences will get their final opportunity to see Cena perform as he knows best at the Showcase of Immortals. However, the living legend has bigger plans than simply appearing during the year’s biggest Premium Live Events.

Besides taking down opponents such as Randy Orton, AJ Styles and Batista in the ring, Cena has been building a career for himself in the entertainment industry. Peacemaker, Ricky Stanicky and Fast X have been some of the projects to feature the wrestler as an actor. As the time comes for Cena to step away from the ring, there’s no denying that the future looks bright for the entertainer. Time will tell how Cena’s legacy in the WWE will look once it’s all said and done, but there’s a reason why many of his peers and followers consider him to be the GOAT (Greatest of All Time).
During the press conference held after Money in the Bank came to an end, John Cena stated that he intended to work plenty of dates in the calendar. This inevitably means that the iconic wrestler will also be seen in the weekly programming organized by the company, with a date still not set for his final match. If members of the WWE Universe were hoping to see Cena one last time, they can rest assured knowing that the Superstar will be going out with a bang as the extensive farewell tour reminds the world why Cena became a wrestling icon in the first place.
The next Premium Live Event from WWE will be SummerSlam, which will take place on August 3 at the Cleveland Browns Stadium in Cleveland.
