The MCU’s season of the witch is upon us with the release of Agatha All Along.
Ahead of the series premiere on Disney+, I had the chance to chat with Kathryn Hahn and Joe Locke about working together on the series, performing at D23, Hahn returning to the character, Locke joining the MCU and much more.
Locke is a new addition to the MCU and portrays a character named Teen in Agatha All Along. With many auditions for the series under his belt, Locke said he felt a sense of relief when he finally got the call telling him he had the part.
“I mean, honestly, when I actually found out, there was mostly relief, because I’d done like, eight, nine auditions at that point. So I was so invested. I was like, ‘If I don’t get this part, it’s gonna break me.’ But obviously, I was extremely excited. And, you know, I’d put so much into the auditions that I wanted it so bad. And, you know, I think Teen is my dream role, to do it with these amazing, amazing witches was just the best,” Locke shared.
For Hahn, she was returning to the character she’d previously portrayed on WandaVision, and she was surprised when she got the call that she’d be playing Agatha again, this time in her own series.
Hahn said, “I mean, just to get that phone call that they were interested in making a show around this centuries old witch that no one had really heard of from the comics was very surreal. And then when I got to hear from Jac the kind of overall arc of the show that she was thinking, which was so delicious. I always had thought that that’s a part that I would, really love to get inside of again, and poke around. I was absolutely thrilled! I knew it would be so fun, and I knew just like WandaVision, it would just take take me on, like a crazy creative ride. That’s what it was. And she’s a witch! I mean, how can you not want to do it.”
Hahn had nothing but praise for her co-star and said Locke blew her away from the very beginning.
“We had a chemistry read, and I just remember being like, he just blew me away. And then we had like, you know, some rehearsals, and I just immediately, like, just fell for him as a human like, I just adored him, and it just felt like there was an instant trust. And so we could go to all these different parts of their relationship pretty easily,” Hahn shared.
