The Superman trailer is officially here!
To celebrate the official debut of the new DC Universe under James Gunn, we were invited to the launch of the trailer earlier this week, with writer/director Gunn himself in attendance, as well as stars Nicholas Hoult, Rachel Brosnahan, and Superman himself, David Corenswet.
Hosted by Eric Davis, the event showcased the teaser trailer and featured an engaging Q&A session with James Gunn alongside the film’s cast. Here are some of the highlights from the event.
James Gunn on Crafting a New Superman
James Gunn began by sharing his vision for the film, emphasizing the authenticity and emotional depth he aimed to bring to the beloved superhero.
“I didn’t come in to write a Superman movie to honor just one thing or another. It had to be a story that excited me, moved me, and felt true to the character,” Gunn explained.
Gunn also touched on the importance of maintaining an authentic and respectful culture on set. “In order for this movie to truly be about good, we had to treat each other and the crew with that same goodness. It all starts there,” he said.
The cast and crew repeatedly praised Gunn’s leadership and collaborative spirit. “James knows exactly what he wants but is also open to ideas from everyone,” said Hoult.
Brosnahan added, “He creates an environment where everyone feels valued, and that’s rare.”
David Corenswet: A Superman for the Modern Era

David Corenswet, who takes on the role of Superman, opened up about his personal connection to the character’s optimism.
“I’ve always tried to see people as their best selves, and I think Superman does too. It’s not about being naive—it’s about staying focused on hope and goodness,” Corenswet said.
He also reflected on the challenges of stepping into the suit, from physically demanding wirework to the symbolic weight of becoming Superman.
“The suit looks incredible, but it’s not glamorous when you’re tied to cranes or cooking inside it on a hot day,” he joked.
However, he cherished moments like seeing kids light up at the sight of Superman on set, a reminder of the character’s timeless impact.
Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane: Courage and Curiosity

Rachel Brosnahan, who portrays Lois Lane, expressed her enthusiasm for bringing this iconic journalist to life.
“Lois is ambitious, fearless, and relentless in her pursuit of truth. While she has always embodied these traits, each era redefines what it means to be a journalist, and this film highlights her relevance in today’s world,” Brosnahan said.
Brosnahan also touched on the dynamic between Lois and Superman.
“Lois questions everything and is always looking ahead, while Superman stays grounded in the here and now. Their contrasting approaches create a really interesting relationship that’s both challenging and fun to explore,” she explained.
Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor: A Complex Villain
Nicholas Hoult gave fans a glimpse into his portrayal of Lex Luthor, highlighting the character’s sharp intellect and ruthless determination.
“You might not agree with his methods, but you can kind of see where he’s coming from,” Hoult said.
He also commended Gunn’s knack for bringing emotional depth to even the most larger-than-life characters, making them feel grounded and real.
Krypton, Krypto, and Superman’s Humanity

The trailer’s opening shot features Superman in a vulnerable moment, rescued by his dog, Krypto.
Gunn described the decision to begin this way: “This movie isn’t just about Superman as a superhero; it’s about him as a person struggling with day-to-day life. The relationship with Krypto highlights his humanity and vulnerability in a unique way.”
Krypto, a fan favorite from the comics, is no ordinary dog—he’s THE GOAT.
“Krypto represents a piece of Superman’s past and his connection to Krypton,” Gunn elaborated. “He’s a symbol of loyalty and hope, and in many ways, he mirrors the qualities we love about Superman.”
Including Krypto also brings in elements of Superman’s mythology rarely explored on screen.
“This is a world where superheroes exist, and Krypto adds another layer to that reality,” Gunn said. “He’s not just a sidekick; he’s a character in his own right, with his own personality and moments to shine.”
Gunn’s vision fully embraces Superman’s mythology while grounding the story in real emotions and relationships. “We’re showing a world with superheroes that’s also about real people living real lives,” he said.
The Iconic Superman Costume

Corenswet and Gunn shared insights into the costume design process, revealing the thought and care that went into creating Superman’s new look. “We knew it had to be vibrant and approachable—something that wouldn’t scare kids but still honored Superman’s alien origins,” Gunn revealed.
The costume’s bright colors were a deliberate choice, reflecting Superman’s optimism and hopeful presence. “He’s an alien who wants to inspire and not intimidate,” Gunn said.
Corenswet added that the costume’s design was also considered practical for filming. “It’s one thing to look great on screen, but it also had to allow for movement and the physical demands of the role,” he shared.
The design process drew inspiration from the original vision of Superman’s creators, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, who based the suit on circus performers and wrestlers.
“We wanted to honor that legacy while making it feel fresh and exciting for modern audiences,” Gunn explained.
