Jake Gyllenhaal, actor and producer, will star in and producer thriller Welcome to Vienna, for Focus Features.
The project is based on the novel To Die in Vienna, which is written by author Kevin Wignall. The novel is set to be published in June.
Gyllenhaal will play a surveillance contractor from Vienna, who is tracking down a Chinese scientist. He believes the CIA is trying to kill him after he interrupts a break-in at his apartment when the intruder returns to kill him after escaping.
Gyllenhaal will be producing the project alongside Riva Marker through his Nine Stories production company.
