The moment fans have waited for is finally here – Deadpool & Wolverine is in now showing in theatres across the globe!
I had the pleasure of speaking with Emma Corrin about their role as Cassandra Nova in the film. The twin sister of Charles Xavier, Nova is a formidable foe worthy of Wolverine and Deadpool’s ire.
Regarding Deadpool & Wolverine, Corrin spoke with me about portraying Cassandra Nova, creating the movements and gestures used when the supervillain uses telepathy and telekinesis, and what it was like being part of the film.
Check out the interview with Emma Corrin below:
About what excited them about playing a supervillain like Cassandra Nova, Corrin said, “I think that Ryan and Shawn didn’t want her to be a typical Marvel villain. That they wanted her to be unpredictable and find the humanity in her, as well as the evil and the scariness that everyone wants and loves. So yeah, that was fun.”
Since Cassandra Nova is a twin of Professor Charles Xavier, who has been portrayed by Sir Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy, I asked Corrin what it was like to make Cassandra their own, when Nova is so closely linked to Xavier.
“I think the scripts had a lot to do with it. I think, you know, this is the first time Cassandra has been seen on screen and her being Charles Xavier’s twin sister is so useful in terms of really figuring out what makes Cassandra tick and what motivates her to do what she’s going to do. But, you know, beyond that, the script offered up so much. It was like a wealth of possibility, and Shawn and Ryan really encouraged a lot of play with the character. And together, we sort of collaborated and found out who she was going to be,” Corrin stated.
With a character whose mind is the main hub or source for their powers, I asked Corrin what it was like finding and creating the gestures and movements that Cassandra Nova uses throughout the film.
“I worked with this amazing movement coach called Polly Bennett, who I worked with in The Crown as well. And we assured gave me quite a lot of freedom and figuring out what her gesture her like signature move would be. And it was quite a lot of pressure, because obviously, I mean, he did Stranger Things. And you’ve got Eleven’s famous one. And again, in the MCU, there are so many people who use gesture as their like, point of power.” Corrin shared.
Be sure to see Emma Corrin as Cassandra Nova in Deadpool & Wolverine in theatres now!
