I'm a hardcore tech geek that works for one of Canada's largest software companies. I have a passion for cultivating and publicizing the diversity in geek culture. Most of my days are spent in the tech world, analyzing data, troubleshooting app/server issues, designing/illustrating and writing code. Ball is life and the Lakers will rise again (don't @ me). Passing me the AUX cord is like passing Picasso a paintbrush. Just so you know, I'm your music plug's plug. One part geek, one part jock, six parts One Punch Man.

Just in time for the weekend, Drake has blessed the masses with some surprise music.

The bouncy new track “Nice For What” is an ode to independent women, doing it for themselves. Throughout the song, Drake makes references to the struggles that many women have made it through, and gives them some well-deserved acknowledgement:

Haven’t let that thing loose, girl, in so long
You’ve been inside, know you like to lay low
I’ve been peepin’ what you bringin’ to the table
Workin’ hard, girl, everything paid for
First, last phone bill, car note, cable…

“Nice For What” is destined to be pumped in cars, clubs and headphones, in the coming weeks. Produced by Noah “40” Shebib, BlaqNmilD, Allen Ritter and Murda Beatz, its infectious beat is amplified by a perfectly placed Lauryn Hill sample of the iconic jam, “Ex-Factor”, from 1998’s The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.

Drake also released an eye-catching video for “Nice For What” that features cameos from Olivia Wilde, Misty Copeland, Issa Rae, Rashida Jones, Jourdan Dunn, Tracee Ellis Ross, Tiffany Haddish, Yara Shahidi, Zoe Saldana, Elizabeth and Victoria Lejonhjärta, Letitia Wright, Bria Vinaite, Emma Roberts and Syd. The video was directed by Toronto native Karena Evans, who also recently worked on the viral video for “God’s Plan”.
