Prime Video’s The Wheel of Timeis back with a new season! To celebrate, Geeks of Color was lucky enough to sit down with the cast of the popular, beloved fantasy series to chat about the latest season.
The series, based on author Robert Jordan’s acclaimed series of novels, has grown in popularity since its debut in 2021. This is because with every season, the series’ characters have significantly evolved, as the story has gotten closer and closer to matching its literary counterpart in terms of quality and complexity.
We had the wonderful pleasure of sitting with two of the stars of the show, Daniel Henney and Sophie Okonedo.
Check out the full interview with Daniel Henney and Sophie Okonedo below:
We’ve seen Henney and Okonedo’s characters for a few seasons now, and every season keeps getting better. So we wondered what the two actors were most excited about regarding Season 3.
Okonedo said, “For me, I got to explore loads of different sides of Siuan. You get to see her in all sorts of states and situations with different characters. Obviously, the opening scene is pretty epic, and I get to do things I haven’t done before. And I felt – not just when I’m on – but for the whole series, I think feels like the most exciting yet, and it’s bigger! It’s more confident as well!”
“The choices that we’ve made in this season are very confident. The world’s – the Aiel Waste is a big one. I can’t wait for fans to see that. A return to a place that feels like home under different circumstances, with a character that has matured and grown and has a lot of pain, who’s taking that back home. That’s really exciting to see. And so there’s a lot there,” Henney added.

The opening scene of the season shows an insurrection, with Okonedo’s character in the middle of it. In ways, this part of the season reflects the society we’re currently living in. Regarding the impact that has, I asked how it effected Okonedo.
“I mean, you do that anyway, when you’re making things, you reflect how you think about it, and how it’s reflecting in the world now. And I think with this story, we constantly kept looking out, and looking back in. And there’s so many parallels and so many things to be learned from the way that things are dealt with in the story. And you know, it’s kind of remarkable sometimes, when we’ve been filming something, and something in the real world, has such a similar tone and heart, it’s frightening,” Okonedo shared.
Henney has electric chemistry with castmate Zoe Robins, and seeing their relationship progress was one of the best parts of Season 3. Regarding filming some of the scenes, Henney felt like when he saw them back, he didn’t see himself.
“Whenever I watch the scenes between myself and Zoe…I don’t even really see myself. It makes me very emotional. I really enjoy those scenes. It’s sort of my heartbeat for the show. Yeah, they’re beautiful. They’re written so well. They’re so sweet. And I think the show can be heavy at times, and a little bit of sweetness goes a long way. And it’s a very pure relationship. So I mean, I’m rooting for them, you know. I want to see more of them, and I know that in the books, there is a lot more of them, and so we’re just hoping we can get a chance to do that,” Henney said.
