You can now bring home a world of pure imagination with the release of Wonka on 4K, Blu-ray and DVD!
In honour of the film’s home release, I spoke with rising star Calah Lane. Lane plays Noodle, one of Willy’s only friends in the movie. The pair believe in one another and encourage each other to do amazing things – something they’ve both been missing.
I spoke with Lane about getting her first significant film role and how she felt when she learned she would play Noodle.
Check out the full interview with Calah Lane below:
“It was so incredible. I was with my mom, and the director called me himself. And we thought that he was going to say, we can come back to England, and we thought he was just gonna go on and on about other things. But he just cut straight to the chase. He said, ‘You know, we want you to play Noodle.’ And me and my mom, were just jumping up and down and screaming to the top of our lungs,” Lane shared.
Noodle’s character is one that many viewers will find relatable for many reasons. As such, I asked Lane if there were any similarities she felt she shared with Noodle or learned about herself while filming Wonka.
“We definitely have a couple of similarities. Well, we were both very observant, and we like to sit back and watch. I’d say I’m very strong; we’re both very strong people. But she is also kind of different. She has a lot of confidence. I’m not a big person with confidence. But I think I really learned from her, you know, being a little bit more confident,” Lane said.
With so many whimsical scenes throughout the film, I wondered if Lane had any particular favourites during her filming time.

“I loved filming the scenes in the chocolate shop with Willy. That was one of my favourites – with the scrub house workers. That’s one of my favourite scenes to film. That set was the most colourful out of all of the sets for me for my character. Because I mean, I was Noodle. So I was in the wash house where everything was ragged, and everything was wet, everything was dull. And then I stepped onto the set where it’s just beautiful, and everything looks edible, and just – it was incredible. But then another thing that I also loved filming was the scene where me, Timmy and the scrub house workers are all talking through little rails like we’re like we’re in jail. That was definitely one of my favourite scenes to film because we were all together with the whole scrub house gang. We were all talking to each other. We had so much fun. I remember we went into a room and practiced all the lines together. And it was just it was fun. Very fun!” Lane said.
Lastly, I asked Lane what she hoped new audiences seeing the film for the first time would take away from Wonka.
“Definitely the message of never letting anyone steal your dreams because that is exactly the message that Paul [King] and Simon [Farnaby], and even Roald Dahl, wanted to bring to this film. And it’s definitely what everybody should take away from it. Never let anybody steal your dreams. Your Dreams matter. And you don’t have to let anybody stand in your way. This is my dream. I’m doing this. I mean, that’s definitely a good message,” Lane shared.
