Detective Alex Cross (Aldis Hodge) is back in action in Prime Video’s latest series, Cross.
Based on the character created by James Patterson and the protagonist of many of Patterson’s novels, this television adaptation from Ben Watkins is a thrilling experience you’ll have to see to believe.
Ahead of the show’s premiere on Prime Video, Geeks of Color was able to sit down with some of the cast and creators of the series to discuss their experience working on Cross, including Aldis Hodge, Isaiah Mustafa, Ben Watkins, Samantha Walkes, Alona Tal, and Eloise Mumford.
Hodge portrays the titular character in the series, while Mustafa portrays his colleague and best friend, John. The pair are a joy to watch on screen.

Hodge and Mustafa were phenomenal in their respective roles – roles that, often, we don’t see Black men in, especially as the leads. So, embodying these roles and living out this dream was a great time for them.
“I mean, we had tremendous fun, yeah! Um, except for the fact that Isaiah would go home with his badge and try to actually pretend to be a real cop, you know what I’m saying. He had got arrested, like, four times for impersonating copper,” Hodge shared.
“Yeah, I could. It was a little method. I did help a lady find her dog, though. I solved one crime,” Mustafa chimed in.
Hodge continued, “Hey, you’d be great, bro. Nah, man, honestly, the opportunity presented not only for the detective space, but just to show these two men in the relationship that they have, the Brotherhood, how they hold each other down, that kind of thing, right? That is something we ain’t seen in a minute. It’s refreshing.”

Being an actor, there is always the chance that you portray someone iconic at least once in your career. When asked what iconic athletes the two might want to play, they said:
“My natural first pick would be Rajon Rondo, because for some reason, somebody said, I look like him. I don’t know if I fully agree, but he got handles, though, he got handles,” Hodge told us.
“You know what I’m gonna go with? I’m gonna go with the Ice Man, George Gervin. Man, if there was one thing he could do, it was finger roll,” Mustafa shared.
Hodge joked, “I was going to say he should play Larry Bird, but that’s just how I feel.”
