Star Trek: Discovery is set to continue their space exploration in its sophomore mission, as star Doug Jones (Saru) shared that season two of the series began filming on April 16 of this year.

But that’s not all Star Trek Discovery has to tell us this day, as it was revealed in El Paso Comic Con that actor-director Jonathan Frakes will be involved in this season 2, directing episodes 2 and 10 of the series… with a special guest in episode 2. The news was revealed by convention attendee and Trek podcaster Justin Oser, via Twitter.

Ever since the announcement that Anson Mount will be playing Captain Pike for a couple of episodes in Discovery, fans were eager to know whether or not we would be seeing a young Spock aboard the USS Enterprise (’cause remember he was part of the Enterprise when Pike was Captain before Kirk).

It’s interesting noting that Spock’s appearance will be through flashbacks, as maybe they do not want to cast someone closer to what we’ve seen in movies, as Zachary Quinto’s performance is still fresh in most people.

We’ll just have to wait and see what’s coming in the Discovery’s way.
