Steven Spielberg officially confirmed that Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow will be returning to the franchise, helming the third Jurassic World installment.

Trevorrow was entrusted to reboot the original 1990’s classic Jurassic Park into Jurassic World in 2015, which resulted as the fourth-highest grossing title of all-time with $1.67 billion at the global box office. The filmmaker recently resigned his directing duties on Star Wars: Episode IX, which has since been taken over by J.J. Abrams.

Trevorrow is currently a writer and producer on the franchise’s upcoming sequel  Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, which is scheduled to release June 22, directed by J.A. Bayona.

Jurassic World 3 is set to open on June 11, 2021. Trevorrow will be writing the script with Emily Carmichael and Executive Producing alongside Spielberg. Frank Marshall and Pat Crowley are producing.
