As filming of the first female-led MCU flick, Captain Marvel is now underway, there is some newly revealed casting news to be shared.

According to Deadline, Gemma Chan is said to be joining Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Jude Law, Ben Mendelsohn and Dewanda Wise in the upcoming movie. As per the report, Chan will play Minn-Erva a.k.a. Doctor Minerva in the film.

Chan has a busy 2018 ahead. In addition to AMC’s Humans season three debut later this year, Chan will also star alongside Constance Wu in the novel-to-film adaptation, Crazy Rich Asians in theaters this summer and Mary Queen of Scots with Saoirse Ronan and Margot Robbie at the end of the year.

In Marvel Comics, Minn-Erva is a Kree spy and geneticist who first came to Earth in search of Captain Mar-Vell. Minn-Erva can fly at subsonic speeds, has enhanced durability and can lift up to 10 tons. The character made her first appearance in Captain Marvel #50 back in 1970.

While the plot details for Captain Marvel are being kept under wraps, we do know that the film is to be set in the past and will focus on Air Force pilot, Carol Danvers a.k.a. Captain Marvel after her DNA is fused with an alien’s during an accident, leaving her with powers including: flight, super strength and energy projection.

Directed by duo Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, Captain Marvel has a release date of March 8, 2019.
