For its latest new series, Amazon has turned to a familiar property. The streaming network is reportedly developing a drama based on Robert E. Howard’s Conan books.

The show is created by Colony’s Ryan Condal, who is also writing the series. Miguel Sapochnik (Game of Thrones) will direct and executive produce with Condal and Warren Littlefield (The Handmaid’s Tale).

The character was famously played by Arnold Schwarzenegger on the big screen, then rebooted with Jason Momoa in the title role.

Driven out of his tribal homelands, Conan wanders the mysterious and treacherous world of civilization where he searches for purpose in a place that rejects him as a mindless savage.

Condal is currently the showrunner on USA’s Colony and is adapting Logan’s Run at Warner Bros. Sapochnik won awards for his work on the Game of Thrones episode Battle of the Bastards and is currently working on Netflix’s Altered Carbon.

Conan is the latest sci-fi/fantasy project for Amazon, which recently made a high-profile purchase of the TV rights for The Lord of the Rings.
