The Umbrella Academy, Netflix latest upcoming show, started production this past Monday, January 18th, as announced on Twitter by one of the creators of the comic.

A while back it was announced that Netflix was preparing a live-action adaptation of the comics The Umbrella Academy, created by Gerad Way, about an estranged family of superheroes who reunite after their adoptive father dies.

The one to break the news was Gabriel Bá -the illustrator of The Umbrella Academy,- who took to Twitter on Monday to post a picture of him with Gerard Way, alongside the caption “Lights! Camera! ACTION! This has officially begun!” to celebrate that the upcoming live-action adaptation of the story had officially started filming.

The cast of this series include Tom Hopper (Black Sails) as Luther, the “leader” whose powers are super-strength, Emmy Raver-Lampman (Hamilton) as Allison, “a beauty with the power of suggestion”, David Castañeda (End of Watch) as Diego, a vigilante with great skills, Robert Sheehan (Misfits) as Klaus, the wildcard of the family with Aidan Gallagher (Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn) as Number Five, “an old genius trapped in a young boy’s body”, and Ellen Page as Vanya, the only one in the family without superpowers.

Steve Blackman (Fargo) will serve as the showrunner of the series and as one of the executive producers, alongside Gerard Way, Gabriel Bá, Bluegrass Television and Mike Richardson and Keith Goldberg from Dark Horse Entertainment.

With a pilot written by Jeremy Slater (The Exorcist) and directed by Peter Hoar (Doctor Who and Netflix’ Daredevil), the show will count with a first season of 10 episodes.
