The CW series Riverdale has been a topic in many geek conversations since its premiere. The twists and turns have had everyone anxiously wondering where the series will go and when certain characters from the comics would show up. One character in particular is the magic-wielding superheroine herself, Sabrina Spellman.

But our favorite teenage witch got her own show instead that is set to air on Netflix called The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Now, Variety is reporting that actress Kiernan Shipka has been cast to play her.

Shipka is most known for her role as Sally Draper on the AMC series Mad Men. She has also done great voice over work in animated series like Legend of Korra and Neo Yokio.

The series will take a bit of a mature turn from the more lighthearted version of Sabrina played by Melissa Joan Hart in the 90s sitcom Sabrina, The Teenage Witch based on the same character. That show lasted for seven seasons and even got two TV movies as well, so there is definitely huge fan base that has been waiting for a newer version of the character to come to life on the small screen.

The untitled series will follow Sabrina who is said to be an empowered young woman, half-human, half-witch, who is just beginning her dark education as a sorceress, even as she tries to maintain a normal life as a sophonore at Baxter High. Intelligent, compassionate and brave to the point of recklessness, Sabrina is all that stands between us and the forces of darkness that threaten our world.

Are you confident that Shipka can pull off the role? What other actress were you hoping would get the part? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
