The Flash: Keiynan Lonsdale on Kid Flash’s Minimal Screen Time This Season
Kid Flash is inarguably one of the most underutilized characters in The CW’s expansive Arrowverse. The young Speedster’s minimal usage has been especially apparent in the currently running fourth season of The Flash. Now we know why.
Early in Season 4, Kid Flash calls out the rest of Team Flash for not noticing his absence during a mission. Shortly thereafter, he leaves Central City and only returns during the “Crisis on Earth-X” crossover to attend Barry and Iris’ wedding. The midseason finale found him gone yet again, seemingly in his continued effort to find himself–a sentiment he expressed upon his initial departure. According to Keiynan Lonsdale who brings Wally West to life on screen, this notion is truer than fans think.
Responding to fan questions in a Twitter Q&A, Lonsdale explained why Kid Flash has been missing of late:

The actor opened up about his sexuality earlier in the year, coming out publicly in a revealing Instagram post. Fans seem eager to continuously lend support and it appears The CW has done the same, as Lonsdale notes he was allowed “time away for self discovery.”

Work and life balance is imperative and nothing is as integral as personal health, whether it be mental, emotional or physical. We hope Keiynan’s path to achieving just that has been fruitful.
While we await Wally’s impending return, here’s to also hoping that an announcement of his collaborating with the Legends is on the horizon. Seriously, the Speedster would be a perfect fit on Legends of Tomorrow.
