Obsidian, the developer that brought us hit titles such as Fallout: New Vegas and South Park: The Stick of Truth, has great news regarding their next RPG. Microtransactions have been a controversial topic throughout 2017 and have only been made worse with the recent release of Star Wars: Battlefront II, noticing this trend Obsidian made a vow that microtransactions will have no place in their next title.

Although Obsidian is keeping details of their next title quiet, earlier this week they took to their forums to make the following announcement.

We’re extremely excited about our upcoming RPG, and we know you are too. We wish we could tell you all about it right now… but we’re going to hold off until the time is right. What we did want to talk about was a question a lot of you have been raising: “Will this upcoming game feature any loot boxes or other microtransactions?”

The answer is simply: “no.” No microtransactions, of any kind, in our game.

Unsurprisingly, the answer has been garnering the developer a lot of good faith. In the post, they go on to stress the details of their relationship with publisher Private Division, a recently formed subsidiary of Take-Two Interactive. Obsidian insisted that Private Division is allowing them to complete creative freedom saying the publisher has been, “Far from “pushing” us to put anything — microtransactions or otherwise — into our game.”

What would you like to see from Obsidian’s next RPG? Would you want another game similar to Fallout: New Vegas or leaning closer to South Park: The Stick of Truth?
