Matt Smith Would Come Back to ‘Doctor Who’
Though Jodie Whittaker is set to take over as the Thirteenth Doctor in this year’s Doctor Who Christmas Special, fans are still wondering if one of their past favorites has plans to return to the TARDIS
While promoting his series The Crown, Eleventh Doctor Matt Smith discussed the possibility of coming back to Doctor Who with MTV.
“Yeah. Why not?” he said. “I’d come back, you know if the timing was right. You got to give a few years to Ms. Whittaker to sort of get the TARDIS under her belt, as it were, and then yeah, one day. Look, I’ll be back one day when I’m old and gray, which isn’t far off.”
Twelfth Doctor Peter Capaldi will take his final bow in the Christmas Special before regenerating into the first ever female Doctor.
Traditionally the episode revolves around a last adventure, then features a regeneration into the new Doctor in the last moments of the show. This means viewers should not expect to see much of Whittaker’s Doctor until she officially takes the reigns sometime next year.
The Doctor Who Christmas Special Twice Upon A Time airs on BBC and BBC America Monday, Dec. 25.
