It’s been a turbulent year for publishing and developing companies, as many have had massive layoffs of their employee base. Gazillion Entertainment, the publishers of Marvel Heroes, laid off almost all of their employees. According to former employees, CEO David von Dorman sent a company-wide letter out informing staff that they were being terminated immediately, the day before Thanksgiving.

Gazillon announced earlier this month that Marvel Heroes, the free-top-play RPG, would be shutting down for good. Remaining employees will be kept on as the company “winds down” to its transition.

Marvel Heroes, which was originally released in 2013, released its last version, Marvel Heroes Omega on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on June 30th.

The game, which originally didn’t have an official shutdown date, is suddenly ending today, instead of at the end of the year like many were speculating.

The news comes on the heels of Telltale, Activision, and EA reporting layoffs of employees as well.
