With Shazam! scheduled to be the DC Extended Universe’s next production, casting announcements have been making the news.

Recently Zachary Levi was set as the hero Shazam, now his other half Billy Batson has found an actor.

Asher Angel of Disney Channel’s Andi Mack will be the boy turned hero. Angel is best known as the hit series’ Jonah Beck.

Billy Batson becomes the adult hero Shazam when he says the hero’s name.

Mark Strong (Kingsman) was said to be in talks for the villain Doctor Sivana.

Shazam! is directed by David F. Sandberg (Annabelle: Creation) and written by Henry Gayden and Darren Lemke.

When the film was announced as part of the DCEU, there were questions about whether the same actor would play both roles using special effects. Sandberg immediately shot that down saying it would be too difficult and expensive.

Shazam! is scheduled for release April 2019.
