The X-Men spin-off film Gambit has been in linbo for quite some time now. The film which has Channing Tatum on board to star as our favorite mutant thief, Remy Lebeau, has gone through several production delays, script rewrites and even the loss of its director. Tatum is still very much attached to bring the character to life on the big screen and has posted on social media about how passionate he is about doing Gambit justice. No new updates about the film have been reported, until now.

Splash Report is reporting that Daniel Craig is in talks to portray Mister Sinister in the Gambit film. The rumor is saying that Mister Sinister will be the main villain in the film and there are even some alleged plot details about the film as well. Check it out below:

“We jump to 10 years later; Gambit is hired to do a job in Paris to steal something from the Louvre Museum. It was apparently a test job to see if he still has it. His mysterious employer is revealed to be Nathaniel Essex a.k.a. Mr. Sinister. He offers Gambit 40 million to recover a mysterious trunk that was stolen by the Boudreaux clan. It will be auctioned off during the yearly Thieves Ball where all the criminal organizations in the world meet up. It uses New Orleans’ Mardi Gras celebrations as a cover. Gambit decides to enlist a crew of mutants to pull off this seemingly impossible heist…”

Craig is most known for his portrayal of special agent James Bond in the 007 film franchise. He most recently starred in the film Logan Lucky opposite Channing, so perhaps after working together Tatum put in a good word for him to the ‘powers that be’. Of course, all of this is just speculation until the studio puts out a statement confirming the news.

Mister Sinister, whose real name is Nathaniel Essex, is a human who was given mutant abilities by genetic modification. He is on the same level as Magneto and Apocalypse when it comes X-Men villains because he always comes back, giving our favorite team of mutants new hoops to jump through. The presence of Mister Sinister was teased in the after-credits scene of X-Men Apocalypse when an individual holding a briefcase saying “Essex Corp” collected a sample of Wolverine’s blood. Only time will tell if these rumors are true. Stay tuned for updates.
