Spider-Man: Homecoming has climbed its way to the top of the global box office, standing at $874 million worldwide, crowning it the highest-grossing superhero film released in 2017.

The record was previously held by Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which has a global box office total of $863.4 million.

Spider-Man: Homecoming‘s $70.3 million opening in China assisted the film in surpassing DC’s Wonder Woman, the highest-grossing film in the DC Extended Universe.

The film is the second-highest Spider-Man film, just behind Spider-Man 3‘s box office total of $890.9 million.

Domestically, Spider-Man: Homecoming is still falling behind both Wonder Woman and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 with $331.9 million, giving it the fourth spot in highest-grossing films of the year in the United States.

Spider-Man: Homecoming is the first film resulting from a partnership between Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios, which allows Sony-owned Spider-Man to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The first appearance of Tom Holland’s MCU Spider-Man was in Captain America: Civil War last year.
