Yesterday, The Hollywood Reporter announced that actor Billy Magnussen (Into the Woods, Bridge of Spies, The Big Short,…) had joined the cast of Disney’s Live-Action Version of Aladdin in a completely new and original character.

Magnussen will play Prince Anders, and most likely will be Aladdin’s competition for Jasmine’s love as she has to wed a prince, remembering the begging of the animated movie.

This is not the first time Magnussen has played a prince for Disney, as back in 2014 he played the prince who fell in love with Rapunzel. In IMDb, the name of his character in this movie is literally “Rapunzel’s prince”.

He’s not the only original character for this Live-Action take on the animated movie, that has reached the status of a classic through the years, as actress Nasim Pedrad (Saturday Night Live) is set to play Mara, the handmaiden and a friend of Jasmine.

The upcoming film will be directed by Guy Ritchie and its current cast counts with newcomer Mena Massoud as Aladdin, Naomi Scott (Power Rangers) as Jasmine, Marwan Kenzari (Murder on the Orient Express) as Jafar and Will Smith as The Genie.

What do you think about this news? How important do you think Billy Magnussen’s character will be in the movie? Let us know in the comments below!
