The Many Celebrity Voices Behind The Animated LEGO Films

The LEGO NINJAGO Movie is coming this September! The film will be the first LEGO film based on an original LEGO toy property. Previously, LEGO has had hits with The LEGO Movie and The LEGO Batman Movie, and if the NINJAGO film is anything like the other LEGO films, it’s sure to be great as well.

The latest LEGO film will feature an amazing voice cast consisting of Jackie Chan as Master Wu, Olivia Munn as Misako, Michael Pena as Kai, Kumail Nanjiani as Jay, Dave Franco as Lloyd and Justin Theroux as Lord Garmadon.

Something to note about these films is that they always have a diverse cast when it comes to the voices in their films.

Let’s start with a quick rundown of the celebrities of color who’ve voiced characters in the previous LEGO films

Rosario Dawson as Batgirl

Known for her roles in films such as Sin City, Top Five, Unforgettable and starring as everyone’s favourite nurse, Claire Temple, in multiple Marvel Netflix shows, Rosario Dawson played the butt-kicking Batgirl in this year’s The LEGO Batman Movie.

Morgan Freeman as Vitruvius

Morgan Freeman is no stranger to voice work, loaning his iconic baritone to a plethora of commercials and documentaries. Add this to his fantastic award winning acting career, Freeman was an amazing choice for Vitruvius in the The LEGO Movie.

Mariah Carey as Mayor McCaskill

R&B/Pop songstress Mariah Carey has shown some serious acting chops in dramas like Precious and The Butler, but took on a fun role in playing Mayor McCaskill in The LEGO Batman Movie.

Billy Dee Williams as Lando

Billy Dee Williams is best-known for playing Lando Calrissian in Star Wars films: The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.  He also notably played Harvey Dent in Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman. But it was his iconic turn as Lando which brought him to The LEGO Movie.

Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman

Starring in a slew of sci-fi and action flicks such as X-men: First Class, The Divergent Series, Mad Max: Fury Road and the upcoming sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Zoe Kravitz is a force to be reckoned with. She proved that much when she lent her voice talents to The LEGO Batman Movie as Catwoman.

Jackie Chan as Master Wu

Lastly we have the formidable Jackie Chan. The action and martial arts star can next be seen in the highly anticipated Martin Campbell directed film, The Foreigner but before that he will star as the wisecracking  Master Wu in The LEGO NINJAGO Movie.
