Much to the delight of many fans, the Legends of Tomorrow panel at this year’s San Diego Comic Con revealed the return of Captain Cold, the villainous antihero named Leonard Snark as played by Prison Break star Wentworth Miller.

Throughout his tenure on The CW’s superhero shows, starting with The Flash, Miller often stole the show thanks to his flamboyant personality and over-the-top antics with partner Mick Rory, also known as Heat Wave. After heroically sacrificing himself for his ragtag team of time traveling misfits in the Legends of Tomorrow season one finale, Captain Cold has appeared sporadically since as a distinctly villainous, younger version of himself among the Legion of Doom.

And according to Legends of Tomorrow executive producer Phil Klemmer, Captain Cold will be getting a lot darker once he returns to the show.

In a recent interview with fansite DC Legends TV, Klemmer had this to say about the character’s upcoming character arc:

“It will be about as polar opposite as the Snart that he’s played on our show. We’ve got a cool pitch to justify that version of him, which I don’t want to give away. But it’s going to be really traumatic for Mick Rory, because he has deified this version of his dead partner in his head, and in a way, Snart’s return is his greatest wish come true, but the fact that he doesn’t get the version that he’s held in the back of his mind is deeply unsettling. Rory’s made a lot of progress as well in the meantime, but he’s certainly not ready to call himself a hero.”

Clearly, there will be some delicious tension to be had between Rory and this different version of his long-lost best friend. Since the show’s creative team is adamant about keeing the secret behind Captain Cold’s reappearance, it will also be interesting to see the differences in this new enemy and discover where the break in the character’s timeline may have occurred.

What do you think about Captain Cold’s character arc in Season 3? Are you worried about his darker personality, or are you just excited to see Miller grace your television screens once more? Tell us know your thoughts in the comments below!

The third season of Legend of Tomorrow is set to premiere on October 10, 2017 on The CW.

  1. I think we’re getting e-2 Leonard! I don’t think he’s gonna be darker, I think he’s gonna be soft, and it’s realllllyyy gonna mess with the team, because he’s gonna be warm and friendly and everyone’s gonna be super confused and weirded out.

  2. I love Leonard and all, but I don’t think Mick needs more trauma. There’s no way that’ll be good to watch it good for his already rocky relationship with the rest of the team.
I miss S1 Leonard and I wish we could have him back, instead of having to deal with all this nonsense.
