It’s been awhile since a new Star Trek show has made an appearance at San Diego Comic-Con. However, CBS’ Star Trek: Discovery has set course for Ballroom 20 at the pop culture convention.

The cast and creators behind the latest entry in the legendary sci-fi franchise will discuss the new series in Ballroom 20 Saturday, July 22 at 2:30 pm.

Star Trek: Discovery follows Sonequa Martin-Green’s Commander Michael Burnham, the first human to attend the Vulcan Space Academy.

Showrunners Aaron Harberts and Gretchen J. Berg revealed a few early plot details to Entertainment Weekly.

“Burnham has spent a lot of time on Vulcan, but she’s human,” said Harberts. “Sarek, (Spock’s father, played by James Frain) plays an important role in her life, which has been completely planned until she makes a very difficult choice that sends her life on a very different path.”

“When we meet her, she’s the First Officer on the Starship Shenzhou, (captained by Philippa Georgiou, played by Michelle Yeoh). And Burnham’s choice that we’re alluding to is most difficult choice you can make — it affects her, affects Starfleet, affects the Federation, it affects the entire universe,” Harberts continues. “That choice leads her to a different ship, the Discovery, (helmed by Captain Lorca, played by Jason Isaacs) and there we begin what Gretchen and I call our ‘second pilot.’”

Star Trek: Discovery stars Sonequa Martin-Green, Michelle Yeoh, Jason Isaacs, Anthony Rapp and James Frain. It is set to premiere on CBS Sept. 24, then will move to CBS All Access for its first eight episodes. The second half of its debut season will return in January 2018. The series will air on Netflix internationally.
