For nine years, Sandra Oh played surgical doctor Cristina Yang on the hit Shonda Grimes show Grey’s Anatomy. Oh left the series in 2014 and her character was written off. Since departing the series, she has guest-starred in shows as well as done a  few films and it’s just been announced that Oh will now take on the titular character in the upcoming BBC America show Killing Eve.

Based on the books by Luke Jennings, Killing Eve focuses on the lives of two women: an assassin named Villanelle; and a security operative, Eve (Oh), who is suddenly pulled from behind the desk and tasked with finding Villanelle.

Creator and star of Fleabag, Phoebe Waller-Bridge will write the eight-episode series and serve as its showrunner when it premieres next year. BBC America president Sarah Barnett said in a statement about Oh:

“Sandra Oh has the ability to go from wrenching to funny to total mess with a genius lightness of touch. Phoebe’s vision is absolutely original, and Sandra is utterly perfect casting, we think, for this key role.”
