The second season of Luke Cage recently began production this month, and we’re already getting hints that it’s going to be just as lit as its groundbreaking first season.

Yesterday, the Harlem Coffee Co. posted a series of candid Instagram posts with several of the show’s key cast and crew members. Most notable among these photos is one that features the owner of the coffee shop, star Mike Colter and, surprisingly, Lucy Liu – with a caption that simply read, “That’s all folks.”

Speculation about this photo so far have theorized that Liu may have a special guest appearance on the show, which viewers know is a very credible possibility. The first season of Luke Cage featured an all-star cast with included stars such as Mahershala Ali, Rosario Dawson and Alfre Woodard, as well as numerous special musical cameos like Faith Evans, Method Man and Jidenna.

However, another Instagram user present at the coffee shop on the day of filming – Musa Jackson, a resident model, Hollywood screenwriter and current producer of his own film imprint – also took a photo with Colter and suggested that Liu may be directing an episode.

The specific caption in Jackson’s photo read as such: “On set with my favorite super hero the amazing Mike Colter aka Luke Cage directed by Lucy Liu in Harlem…”

If Liu has indeed been brought on as a guest director, she certainly has the credentials to excel in the position. She previously directed four episodes of the hit TV show Elementary, the American adaptation of Sherlock Holmes in which she costars as Dr. Watson.

Most episodes of Luke Cage season 1 had different guest directors but, if Liu also guest starred in season 2, she would be the first actor in the show’s history to also direct an episode.

No matter the exact circumstances of her involvement, we’re beyond excited to see what she brings to the table. How about you, GOC readers – are you excited about this latest Luke Cage production news? Let us know your thoughts!

Luke Cage season 2 is set to premiere sometime in 2018 on Netflix, most likely before the August 18 premiere of The Defenders ensemble series staring the casts of Luke Cage, Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Iron Fist.
