With the film’s official release date today and all of the rave reviews it’s been getting, topped with it’s successful box-office take in Thursday’s early screenings, it’s no surprise that director Patty Jenkins has been signed on for the sequel.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, it was confirmed that both Jenkins and the film’s star, Gal Gadot, are both contracted for the Wonder Woman sequel.

This is good news for Wonder Woman fans as Jenkins has a definitive understanding and knowledge of the iconic lasso-wielding warrior. In fact, Jenkins’ take on Diana of Themyscira was one of the most well-reviewed parts of the film.

Fingers crossed that we will indeed see a sequel and that Patty Jenkins will be back at the helm because it seems like Wonder Woman will be a bonafide hit for Warner Bros.

*Update*:  According to Collider, Jenkins has not yet officially signed on for Wonder Woman 2. She was optioned to return but now The Hollywood Reporter says that her deal was just for the one film, however negotiations are set to begin soon and there is interest on both sides for  Jenkins to come back and helm the Wonder Woman follow-up film.
