Daveed Diggs To Star in ‘Snowpiercer’ TV Series
With so many shows being cancelled this season, it only makes sense that networks would be seeking fresh new content to add to their future line ups. Based on a report from Entertainment Weekly, TNT has officially announced that they will be turning the innovative science fiction film Snowpiercer into a television series and have cast Tony Award winning actor Daveed Diggs in the lead role.
Snowpiercer was originally a film set in a post apocalyptic world where the entire Earth is frozen in ice and the last survivors live their lives on a train called the Snowpiercer that circles the Earth. On the train, a class system emerges where some live lavish lives in beautiful suites, eating the finest foods while enjoying spas and nightclubs while others are forced to live in industrial cabins eating food made from cockroaches. The film stars Christ Evans, Jamie Bell, Tilda Swinton, Kang-ho Song, Ben Hurt and Octavia Spencer.

The series will be set seven years after the apocalypse where Diggs will play a character named Layton Well who is described as a prisoner barely surviving the harsh conditions on the tail end of the train. He is also described as a quiet thinker who spends his days sniffing the industrial waste turned drug, Chronole, and tending to his cage full of rats. But his life takes a turn when he reluctantly joins the resistance in a struggle that could upend life on the train.
The pilot episode will be directed by Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson and the series will be executive produced by Josh Freidman (War Of The Worlds), Marty Adelstein (Teen Wolf), and Becky Clements (Last Man Standing). Besides his popular portrayal of Marquis de Lafayette and Thomas Jeffersion in the broadway musical Hamilton, Diggs has shown his versatility as an actor with roles in shows like Black-ish, The Get Down and the upcoming third season of Netflix original series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
