Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hasn’t opened in the United States yet, but that doesn’t mean speculation about Vol. 3 of the story can’t start.

James Gunn is returning to write and direct the third film in the franchise. He has previously said that it will be “the end of this iteration of the Guardians of the Galaxy.”

Frankly we can’t even begin to speculate on the meaning of that cryptic statement. However, Gunn did offer some concrete news on Vol. 3 when he told USA Today that Zoe Saldana’s Gamora plays a “significant role” in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

The film will be set after Avengers: Infinity War, where the Guardians finally meet up with The Avengers.

Of course the plot is top-secret, but an educated guess would be that the teams must unite to keep Thanos from gathering all the infinity stones.

Other than knowing that Thanos stole her and made her into a living weapon, very little has been shared about Gamora’s past. Maybe her increased role in Vol. 3 will provide more insight into her past.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Kurt Russell and opens May 5 in the US.
