Netflix’s ever-growing Marvel universe is ready to add its next hero as The Punisher has finished production on season one.

The Punisher has Jon Bernthal reprising his role of Frank Castle from season two of Daredevil. Castle is a former soldier who becomes a shoot first, ask questions later vigilante after his family is brutally murdered. He and Daredevil started out as enemies but eventually came to an understanding.

As is Marvel’s way, there is no word on the story of The Punisher’s first season, but based on the other Netflix series we can expect mentions of the incident, cryptic talk about New York’s other heroes and a powerful villain who controls all the crime in the neighborhood.

The show is now in post-production and hoping for a 2017 release. With The Defenders scheduled for an Aug. 18 release, The Punisher fans may have to wait until late 2017 for a binge watch.

Frank Castle hasn’t been announced as appearing in The Defenders, but Marvel does like its surprises.

The Punisher stars Jon Bernthal, Deborah Ann Woll, Amber Rose Revah, Ben Barnes, Jason R. Moore, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Michael Nathanson, Paul Schulze and Jaime Ray Newman.
