Warner Bros. Courting Jordan Peele To Direct ‘Akira’
According to The Tracking Board, Get Out director, Jordan Peele is being aggressively courted to direct the live-action adaptation of Akira.
Coming off the mega-success that was Get Out, the talks with Peele have allegedly been very encouraging.
Akira is set to be produced by Leonardo DiCaprio’s, Appian Way with Andrew Lazar (American Sniper) and Marco Ramirez (Netflix’s Daredevil) has already written the most recent draft of the script.
Warner Bros. secured the rights to Akira back in 2002 and has struggled with putting the film together, but now it seems their might be a light at the end of the tunnel.
The film was nearly put into production with Kristen Stewart and Garrett Hedlund cast as the leads, but the plug was pulled at the last minute.
As Akira is touted as one of the best anime films created, it’s safe to say Warner Bros. cannot afford to produce a mediocre live-action version of the original anime.
