A Darker Shade of Magic Coming to the Big Screen
Just days after the release of the third book in V.E. Schwab’s “Shades of Magic” Trilogy, it was announced last week by the Hollywood Reporter that the first book A Darker Shade of Magic will be adapted into a film by Sony and G-Base, Gerard Butler’s production shingle.

In A Darker Shade of Magic, there are four versions of London: White London, Red London, Grey London and Black London. The book follows a magician named Kell, who has the rare ability to travel throughout the parallel universes. Magic is treated differently in each London. Grey London residents don’t believe in magic, but Black London residents fight over it.
In addition to Gerard Butler, the film will be produced by Danielle Robinson, Alan Siegel, Neal Moritz, and Schwab herself, as she has confirmed on Twitter:
I am a producer and have a LOT of creative control.
