Per EW, Geeks of Color has learned that, after 4 seasons, FOX has cancelled supernatural drama Sleepy Hollow.

The first season of the show was incredibly successful and gave more spotlight to newcomer Tom Mison and 42 star Nicole Beharie. However, the show struggled creatively thereafter with a plot that, to viewers, felt erratic and left many plot holes.

Perhaps the moment that solidly identified the show’s decline was when lead Nicole Beharie, who portrayed lead character Abbie Mills, exited the show after her character was killed off. This decision was met with extreme backlash as fans coined the hashtag #AbbieMillsDeservedBetter and vowed to stop watching.

As the show found a new lead in Janina Gavankar and moved the setting to Washington DC in an attempted relaunch for its fourth season, there was a significant ratings drop. Sleepy Hollow‘s fourth season averaged a tepid 3.3 million viewers and only a 0.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic which also included DVR.

The news of the cancellation comes today on the heels of FOX cancelling Morris Chestnut led procedural Rosewood. Other FOX shows in danger of being cancelled include The Excorcist, Scream Queens, and APB. Meanwhile, whether or not 24: Legacy will be renewed remains unclear as there most likely will not be answer until after upfront presentations for FOX next week.
