The trailer is a short peek at what’s to come; however, there’s a lot to be discerned from the 90 second new look. First and foremost is that theories regarding the setting are evidently true–Red Dead Redemption 2 is indeed a prequel. Additionally of note is the new lead character, who like John Marston before him does run in Dutch’s gang. From the brief trailer, it’s clear that a focus on life as an outlaw will take precedent this time around.

There’s still a question of where specifically this falls in the timeline: Is Marston a part of the gang at all? How formidable is Dutch’s group at this juncture? Considering Rockstar’s penchant for releasing information piecemeal, it will likely be a while before minute details come to the fore.

Alongside the trailer, the studio also unleashed a bevy of screenshots.

Red Dead Redemption 2 launches on PS4 and Xbox One in Spring 2018.
