THE CONTRIBUTOR DESK
WRITE FOR US.
GOC is a Rotten Tomatoes–approved outlet building a roster of writers, critics, and on-camera talent who actually live the culture. If that's you — pitch us.
We're not a press-release rewrite shop. We don't run performative diversity takes. We don't do clickbait that breaks reader trust. If you can write the kind of piece you actually want to read — bring it.
● What We're Looking For
A take, not a topic.
- A clear angle — not just the subject, but YOUR read on it.
- Cultural relevance to the POC geek audience we write for.
- Timeliness — tied to a release, event, anniversary, or trending moment.
- Coverage gaps — stories competitors aren't telling, or aren't telling right.
● What We Publish
Reviews, news, lists, interviews.
- Reviews — 600–1,200 words. Opinionated, fair, culture-aware.
- News — 200–500 words. Fast, with a GOC angle. Same-day turnaround.
- Lists / Rankings — 800–1,500 words. Fun, opinionated, shareable.
- Streaming guides — monthly, organized by platform and week.
- Interviews — staff-only for now (junket and red-carpet access).
● Pitch Format
Email, three short paragraphs, and clips.
- Subject line: [PITCH] Your Headline Idea.
- Para 1 — The pitch. What's the article? What's the angle? Why now?
- Para 2 — Why you. One or two sentences on your connection to the topic.
- Para 3 — Logistics. Article type, estimated word count, proposed deadline.
- Two or three published writing samples (links preferred).
● After You Hit Send
How the editorial process actually runs.
- We aim to respond within 3–5 business days.
- Accepted pitches get a deadline and scope notes from your editor.
- Drafts go in Google Docs. Expect 1–2 rounds of edits.
- Final approval, queued for publication, tagged on socials when live.
- Kill fee on commissioned pieces: 25% if we kill it.
